Those with Indigenous status had their culture, traditions, and status all stripped away from them. Indigenous status and cultural history must be re-invoked into families affected, as the status and history are something to be proud of and treasure. So many years have gone by where the government attempts to control the Indigenous ways of life that time has gone, and what they want, must be taken into account. The indigenous population are their own people, and if their decision is to remain disconnected from the non-Indigenous community, that decision must be respected.
